Deep in the English moors of Essex County, far from cityscapes and civilization, lies Blackmoor Manor. Many ghosts and beasts haunt the English countryside, but nothing compares to what lies within Blackmoor Manor!.
Beyond the walls of this Twelfth Century English mansion resides one of England's oldest and most mysterious families: the Penvellyns. Nothing about the Manor, or the Penvyllns, is normal. For nearly a millennium the Penvellyns have called the Great Hall of Blackmoor Manor home, but few of the eccentric members of this line have met happy endings. Very little fact is known about the Penvellyns, but all the townsfolk have heard the stories.
It all began with Randulf the Red, the forebear of the line, a famous English warrior who built Blackmoor Manor and took the name of the area surrounding his new home, Penvellyn. Over the years, his descendants have reached great heights of both acclaim and notoriety as warriors, astronomers, alchemists, explorers, and diplomats. Despite their successes, the Penvellyns have been shunned and outcast, and many of this eclectic group have met with tragic ends. Rumors swirl that inside the walls of Blackmoor Manor, generations of Penvellyns have been practicing witchcraft, abusing mystical powers that should never be used. But there is another rumor, a rumor of a strange and terrible beast.
For years people have been passing on tales of what takes place beyond the gate -- tales of the most strange and unworldly things. But now it appears that the rumors can no longer be simply brushed aside. Something is terribly wrong within the Manor!
Those who have been brave enough to adventure near the black, rusty gates reported hearing strange noises coming from the fog. Strange growling noises, to be exact. Others have reported seeing ghostly figures peering out the windows. And some have even seen a single set of eyes -- red eyes -- staring out into the night. Few dare to walk too close to the Manor though, fearful of being cursed by the same being that appears to have cursed the family years ago.
And now, the Manor's newest resident, an American named Linda, has taken ill! After marrying diplomat Hugh Penvellyn, and moving into the historic estate, Linda has suddenly started acting strangely - hiding behind bedcurtains and refusing to see anyone. Someone or something is threatening Linda? Is it a conspiracy or is it the result of some ancient curse placed on the Penvellyn family? What is rumored to be haunting the manor?
